Help, I can’t stop thinking!  Ten steps to a quiet mind  

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is based on Suryacitta’s 30 years of experience of practising and teaching. He has observed over these years that the primary problem most people have has that they over think. 
 
Too many of us live in our head which chatters, judges, criticises, plans (when we don’t want it to) and a million other things. Overthinking can be seen as the art of creating problems which don’t exist. It is the main cause behind anxiety, fear, dread and also persistent sense of restlessness. 
 
The course will explore experientially the whole idea of why we over think and what we can do about it. 
 
Each session will include a meditation or contemplation, short talk and practical tools and techniques for everyday life. 
 
The content is all pre-recorded audio by Suryacitta. The course is aimed to be completed in ten days, but you do it take over a longer period, and repeat as many times as you wish. Once purchased it is yours and is downloadable.

SESSION 1: Help! I can't stop thinking 
DESCRIPTION 
Mark Twain once said, “I’m an old man, I have had many problems, most of the never happened.” Call it what you will but overthinking is the cause of much suffering and distress in our lives. The mind is a beautiful instrument creating many wonders in life, but it is out of control, and as a consequence it also creates suffering when not used wisely. The session includes a short talk, a meditation and tools and techniques for life. 
 
 
SESSION 2: The parable of the two daggers of life 
DESCRIPTION 
In this session Suryacitta is going to show you in no uncertain terms just how you create your own suffering, and how to stop this. He also clarifies the difference between suffering and pain with the telling of one of the most simple and profound images called the parable of the two arrows. If you understand this parable you will understand how you create many problems. 
The session will include a teaching, a meditation and suggestions for daily life. 
 
 
SESSION 3: Who’s this in the car with me? 
DESCRIPTION 
How many conversations do you have each and everyday with people who are not actually with you nor are you on the phone with them? When you think about this you will realise you have lots of them. This is how many of us spend our time. We may be in a beautiful park but we are lost in our head “chatting” to people who are not with us. These conversations may be anything from disagreeing with the boss, chatting to your partner or planning a dream holiday/vacation with a good friend. 
Included in the session is a talk and a meditation. 
 
SESSION 4: How to unhook from overthinking 
DESCRIPTION 
Ever been fishing or watched somebody do it? The person fishing puts some bait on the hook and unfortunately for the fish it bites not only into the bait but also onto the hook. It can’t get free no matter how much it struggles. Thoughts are like hooks, they come along and we “hook” into them, and not being able to get free we think even more. 
During this session we are going to explore more deeply the wonderfully simple art of unhooking from unnecessary thinking. Included in the session is a meditation on unhooking along with a talk. 
 
 
SESSION 5: Please, stop watching the “ME” movie 
DESCRIPTION 
If we are honest we will admit that we are self-obsessed. This is not a judgement, but a simple statement from years of observation. It’s like we are in a movie cinema and it’s playing a movie called ME. This “movie,” the thoughts in our head keep playing the same old repeats of past and of future hopes and fears, and our lives are often lost fluctuating between hope and fear. 
Included in the session is a meditation, an exercise around the “ME” movie and a talk on how pay attention, not just to thoughts, but to life itself, right here and now. 
 
 
SESSION 6: How you create your heaven and hell. 
DESCRIPTION 
Most of us know that heaven and hell are not real places we go to, but that they are states of mind. But do we know how we create these states? Do we realise that the mind is a story teller and that heaven and hell depends on that story, and how it is received by the audience - YOU! 
Suryacitta - the happy buddha will show you how this happens and what to do about it. There will be a talk and a meditation. 
 
 
SESSION 7: What we feel, we heal 
DESCRIPTION 
Much or our over thinking is a way of protecting ourselves from feeling. When we live in our head in this way these feelings and emotions can become “lodged” in the body. What these feelings and emotions need is to be healed, and feeling them for just a moment can begin this glorious process. What we feel we heal is the theme for this session. In this session there will be a teaching and a meditation on feeling leads to healing. 
 
 
SESSION 8: Bursting your balloons 
DESCRIPTION 
Each morning we wake up and blow into a balloon. After five minutes life comes along and bursts it. We reach for another balloon, then life comes along again and bursts that one. We do this all day long each and every day, and it’s exhausting. We can call this the art of non-acceptance, which just leads to distress. In this session Suryacitta shows you what you blow into the balloons and how to move to a life of complete acceptance. 
A talk, and a meditation included here. 
 
 
SESSION 9: Getting off the thought bus and keeping the inner critic quiet 
DESCRIPTION 
What we all want is to be in the present moment. We intuitively know that this is where 
peacefulness and fulfilment are. However, many of us are not sure how to be in the present moment but yearn deeply for it. Through a tantalisingly simple and everyday metaphor Suryacitta shows you why you seem not to be present and also what being present really means. There will be a short talk and a “getting off the thought bus” meditation. 
 
 
SESSION 10: Waking up to every moment of your life/Opening to your natural self 
DESCRIPTION 
We only have this one life - as far as we know. However, we are rarely here to savour it. Instead of experiencing real life in the here and now, which is full of wonder and joy, we miss it because we are fixated on the mental world of the head. Which we can call our virtual reality. 
In this session Suryacitta will explore why we feel the need to live in the head but also he will show you how to ‘wake up to each moment of your life. There will be a short talk and meditation.

How to open to your natural jewel of joy and ease Meeting your intuitive self  

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is based on Suryacitta’s latest book, the Happiness and Contentment Workbook published in 2020. 
 
Imagine a large ice cube. At its centre shines a beautiful glittering jewel. The jewel represents your innate joy and wonder - but because it is encased in a block of ice you don’t have access to it. The ice in this image is a barrier, a barrier which prevents us from accessing the jewel of natural joy. This barrier is created by our ‘rigidly held limiting beliefs’. Our thoughts, attitudes and behaviours which keep our jewel of joy frozen and seemingly out of reach. 
 
If you want to access your jewel, you need to melt the ice. You can do this by simply putting it in the sun. The sun in our experience is mindfulness or awareness, and it is this quality which helps to melt the ice and reveals your jewel of nature joy. 
 
Each session includes a short talk and a meditation and or an exercise.

OPENING TO YOUR NATURAL JEWEL OF JOY AND EASE 

SESSION 1: Becoming mushy 
DESCRIPTION 
Just as the warmth of the sun melts ice and reveals what is within it, so the warmth of mindfulness melts away the barriers which prevent us from accessing the jewel of ease and joy. Suryacitta will illustrate how to use mindfulness to open to the natural joy and wonder of life by melting away all that stands stubbornly before it. 
There will be a short talk and contemplations which will activate your sub-conscious mind resulting increased self-awareness. 
 
SESSION 2: Meeting your intuition 
DESCRIPTION 
We all have intuition, but we don’t always listen to it. The intuition knows things and sees things which the rational mind doesn’t know and see. The intuition can help guide you through your life. During this session you will be introduced to your own intuition and will be shown how to access intuition to apply to your diary life. 
 
 
SESSION 3: Your limiting beliefs 
DESCRIPTION: 
Beliefs are unexamined assumptions and views about ourselves, others and life in general. Limiting beliefs hold us back and we often don’t realise it. Just by believing them we stop behaving, feeling and speaking in ways which are natural to us. These beliefs may be that you are unworthy, or that you don’t deserve to be happy, and are often hidden from your conscious mind. Through exploring and unearthing these beliefs we can free ourselves from their paralysis and feel once more the joy of life. 
There will be a short meditation and an exercise called, writing with the other hand. 
 
 
SESSION 4: Courage - a little forgiveness for self and others 
DESCRIPTION 
One of the ways we form the ice which separates us from our natural joy is that of holding onto resentments. These resentments may be things which people have said or done to you in the past or what we have said and done to ourselves. Somebody has to have the courage to begin the forgiveness process. During this session there will be a short meditation you will explore how to forgive through simple direct questions for you to reflect upon and melt more of the ice of unhappiness. 
 
 
SESSION 5: Compassionate Boundaries 
DESCRIPTION 
In my experience of teaching mindfulness, I have realised how vitally important personal boundaries are to my own and others well-being. Many of us struggle with this area in our lives, assuming that saying “no” will seem unkind, or being assertive will come across as aggressive. But healthy personal boundaries are an essential ingredient to a balanced and happy life. During this session there will be a short meditation and you will explore how to develop healthy boundaries through an exercise and reflection. 
 
 
SESSION 6: From thinking to sensing 
DESCRIPTION 
As most of us know, we spend far too much time in our heads - thinking. Much of this thinking creates problems which don’t happen, have never happened and never will happen!. This is the cause of much distress and is one of the ways we create the ice of unhappiness. There will be an exercise that shows you how to move from a life of over thinking to a life of sensing, of living in the body. Through sensing we can listen to the intuitive voice. There will be a short sensing meditation along with an exercise on over-thinking. 
 
 
SESSION 7: Dancing with dragons - Befriending difficult emotions 
DESCRIPTION 
Many of us are uncomfortable with certain emotions: we don’t quite know what to do with them. However, it’s not really the emotions we experience which are problematic, it’s the ones we don’t experience. They can remain “stuck” year after year. What you will learn during this session is how to turn towards and to gently experience whatever emotion is present. This will be done via a short talk and guided meditation. 
 
 
SESSION 8: Exploring the masks you wear 
DESCRIPTION 
We all wear masks, and we all hide behind them. The very word ‘person’ derives from the latin persona which means an actor’s mask. We wear different masks in different situations. One of our deepest desires is to show our authentic self, but it is also something we resist. 
During this session you will be guided through a meditation on taking off the masks and revealing your true self - the one that sits behind and beyond. The one that is waiting to shine. 
 
 
SESSION 9: Where has your wildness gone? 
DESCRIPTION 
For over 25 years the single biggest theme people bring to courses and retreat is their own struggle and the unhappiness this creates. What I observe is that they have lost touch with their “wildness”. Your wild energy is your life energy, it connects you to nature, to people and it is always joyful. During this session there will be guided meditation and you will be asked to engage in a short writing exercise about getting in touch with your wildness. 
 
 
SESSION 10: Going deeper with your intuition 
DESCRIPTION 
We all have intuition, but we don’t always listen to it. The intuition knows things and sees things which the rational mind doesn’t know and see. The intuition can help guide you through your life. During this session you will be introduced to your own intuition and will be shown how to access intuition to use in your diary life.
