This workshop explores our relationship to the menopause. It can be a great time of transition physically, emotionally and spiritually For many women it can be a struggle. The workshop aims to provide support at this time. We will introduce the use of Mindfulness practices to BE with your symptoms, rather than battling against them.
Mindfulness for Menopause
This is not a one size fits all approach to the menopause. We will all have individual responses. The workshop will give you an opportunity to spend time with others who are on their own menopause journey and to gain new tools to support you as life continues to change We cannot stop the change but we can change our relationship with it.
Share or listen, your choice. The Workshop will be guided by the experiences arising in the room, focusing on the needs of those attending.
The topics explored may include:-
Physical responses: poor sleep; hot flushes, lack of energy, loss of libido, loss of our youthful body.
Emotional responses: changing relationship with our physical body, partners, parents, children.
Behavioural responses: eating; drinking, technology, health seeking behaviour.
Pharmacological responses: HRT, herbal remedies
Spiritual responses: Who am I?, loss of roles, deeper values.
Gaynor and Linda will share with you what has kept them well during the menopause. There will be time for discussion along with experiencing mindfulness meditation practices to aid wellness.
Mindfulness is recognized by The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists as reducing stress responses during the menopause and thus reducing symptoms.
Dr Linda Khalid journey:
An early menopause took her by surprise a year after the birth of her daughter. That year was spent having a lot of lie downs! And also experiencing palpitations. Once realised she quickly gave in to HRT. Physically things improved. However this was also a time of deep questioning and the beginning of a spiritual journey which would connect her with mindfulness.
Gaynor stopped working full time having not sleep for over 3 years due night sweats and feeling that she could no longer operate in a stressful envionment and function in a responsible way. On the basis of remembered advice from her Mum before her death, she avoided HRT, but tried every complimentary and herbal option know to her friends or researched. Spending a small fortune in the quest! She practices all the mediations she will be sharing and can say she now has a good nights sleep!
"I found the Saturday morning session a beautiful and safe environment to explore this time of life.
The gentle relaxed pace of the morning was what I needed and enabled me to connect with myself and the other women in the room effectively.
The combination of sharing personal experiences/ thoughts with the Mindful practice was very helpful. Being able to sit outside for a while in the warmth connecting to the earth also helped to further nurture.
Menopause for me feels like a really useful time to practice Mindfulness as the need to accept and welcome what is happening without judgement or fear feels like it will help me to work with the flow of what is happening rather than against it."
